In Hiroshima, during the 50s, while taking part in a movie about peace, a French architect (Emmanuelle Riva) falls in love with a Japanese architect (Eiji Okada). This passionate love reminds her of a past romance in Nevers during the War, with a German lover who is now dead. But time has already erased that pain, in the same way that she knows time will erase this romance in Hiroshima.
